Saharanpur. The owner of an eatery in Saharanpur district was arrested after a purported video of an employee spitting on rotis while making them went viral on social media, police said on Thursday.
After the video went viral on social media, a complaint was lodged against the eatery owner Usman at the local police station and the minor involved in the incident was taken into custody, police said.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain said that there is a restaurant named Dastarkhan near the Ghas Mandi in Chhutmalpur town under Fatehpur police station. A minor employee of this restaurant was making rotis by spitting on them, a video of which was made and circulated on social media.
Jain told that in this case Nitish Badthwal reached Fatehpur police station and gave a written complaint in which it was said that an employee of this restaurant is baking rotis by spitting on them, which is hurting the religious sentiments of the society. He told that in the complaint, action was taken against the restaurant and it was demanded to be sealed. Jain told that on the basis of the complaint, the police arrested the owner of the restaurant while the minor employee has been taken into custody.
According to the police, an FIR has been registered under Section 196 of the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, caste, place of birth, residence, language etc. and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony). He said that further investigation of the case is going on.
