Ambikapur. A case has been registered against six people including the general manager after four workers died in an accident at an alumina refinery plant in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district. Police officials gave this information on Wednesday. Police officials said that after investigating the accident that took place at Maa Kudargadhi Minerals and Refinery Private Limited on September 8, a case was registered at Raghunathpur police station on Tuesday.

He said that the police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against the factory’s general manager Rajkumar Singh, supervisor Ranjit Chaudhary, production manager Tej Malani, boiler in-charge BK Mishra, contractor Vipin Mishra, boiler in-charge Rakesh Kumar and other responsible persons of the company. Officials said that no one has been arrested in this case so far.

He said that four workers were killed and two others were injured when a hopper full of coal fell on Sunday in a factory refining bauxite into alumina. Alumina is used to make aluminum. Police officials said that preliminary investigation and interrogation of witnesses revealed that the owner of the company had handed over the entire supervision of the unit to Singh, Chaudhary, Malani and BK Mishra, who handed over the operational work to contractor Vipin Mishra.

He said that the boiler (hopper) was being operated by boiler in-charge Manoj Singh and Rakesh Kumar under the supervision of Vipin Mishra.
Manoj Singh is one of the four dead. Officials said that instead of filling the hopper with sawdust, coal powder was allegedly being used, which caused it to collapse due to the excess weight.

He said that this shows the negligence of the company management. The six accused and other responsible persons of the company were found working negligently. He said that the workers were also not provided safety equipment, which resulted in this accident. Officials said that the police is investigating the matter.
