Bhubaneswar. The Odisha government has provided security to the army officer and his fiancée, who were allegedly sexually assaulted during their custody at Bharatpur police station. A senior official of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate said on Tuesday that personal security officers (PSOs) have been deployed for the two following the state government’s decision. He said the PSOs will accompany them whenever they go anywhere in the city.
The Odisha government has taken this decision at a time when the army officer, his fiancée and her father and some former army personnel met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the state secretariat. During the meeting with Majhi, the victim said that she may receive threats due to this case. However, after meeting the Chief Minister, the woman said that now she feels relieved and hopes that she will get justice.
An army officer posted in West Bengal and his fiancée had lodged a road rage complaint at the Bharatpur police station on September 15, alleging that they were allegedly harassed by some local youths. The state government has suspended five policemen for allegedly sexually assaulting the woman during custody and ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.
