Shivkumar and his brother had planned to field Darshan in the Channapatna assembly by-election: BJP leader

The Uncut

Ramnagar. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit leader C P Yogeshwar on Friday claimed that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and his brother former MP D K Suresh had planned to field actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, arrested in a murder case, as the Congress candidate in the Channapatna assembly by-election. The by-election in this constituency has become necessary after Janata Dal Secular leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who represented the Channapatna assembly, was elected to the Lok Sabha. However, the Election Commission has not yet released the schedule for the by-election for this assembly seat.

Legislative Council member and former minister Yogeshwar told reporters, “Their surprise candidate is now behind bars, I know who their surprise candidate is. The person they wanted to field in the by-election has been caught in a murder case and is behind bars. Now whether the surprise candidate comes or someone else, both the parties (BJP and Janata Dal Secular) are ready for the election.” He was responding to a question asked in Suresh’s recent statement about fielding a surprise candidate.

The BJP leader said, “The former MP (Suresh) was talking about a surprise candidate. He wanted a person who is now caught in a murder case as a surprise candidate, but now it is not possible. Maybe now he will find another surprise candidate, let’s see.” Without naming Darshan, Yogeshwar said, “He is a film star who campaigned a lot for the Congress. In the coming days, he wanted to include him in the Congress and the DK brothers (Shivakumar and Suresh) had planned to face the election through him.”

Refraining from commenting on the Darshan episode, Yogeshwar said, “He was keen to join politics, maybe he wanted to come into public life. But unfortunately, tragedy happened.” Yogeshwar Kumar has acted in some films. He is said to be one of the possible candidates of BJP-Janata Dal Secular in the Channapatna by-election. Darshan Thoogudeep and his associates have been arrested in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy.

According to police sources, Renukaswamy, a resident of the district headquarters town of Chitradurga, allegedly commented on the social media account of Darshan’s friend and actress Pavithra Gowda, accusing her of creating a rift between the actor and his wife. According to sources, she allegedly used “abusive language” and posted objectionable messages.
