Lucknow. Top seeds PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen performed brilliantly in the Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament on Sunday, winning the women’s and men’s singles titles respectively. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu won the tournament title for the third time by defeating China’s Wu Luo Yu 21-14 21-16 and ended her long-running title drought. She has already won the trophy in 2017 and 2022 also.

In the men’s singles final, 2021 World Championship bronze medalist Lakshya gave a dominant performance and defeated Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh 21-6, 21-7 in the title match. Former world champion Sindhu, 29, topped the podium after a gap of two years and four months. He won his last title at the Singapore Open in July 2022. This year she also reached the final of Malaysia Masters Super 500 in May.

Lakshya’s victory is a relief after the disappointing defeat in the bronze medal playoff at the Paris Olympics. This victory will definitely boost their confidence before the new season. Indian badminton got another occasion to celebrate during the day as the women’s doubles pair of Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated China’s pair of Bao Li Jing and Li Qian 21-18, 21-11 in just 40 minutes to register their first super title. Won 300 titles.

The win is historic for the Commonwealth Games bronze medal-winning pair as Trisa and Gayatri became the first Indian women’s doubles pair to win a title at this tournament. This pair was the runner-up in the 2022 phase. India’s men’s doubles pair of Prithvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratik and mixed doubles team of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila ended their campaign as runners-up.
Prithvi and Sai presented a tough challenge in the men’s doubles final which lasted 71 minutes but they had to face defeat by China’s Huang Di and Liu Yang 14-21, 21-19, 17-21. Fifth seeded Tanishaa and Dhruv lost a one-game lead to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supisara Paevsampran 21-18 14-21 8-21 in the mixed doubles final.
