Smith will return to number four in the Test series against India

The Uncut

Melbourne: Australia’s experienced batsman Steve Smith will bat at his preferred number four position in the upcoming Test series against India. National selector George Bailey confirmed this on Monday. Smith has been opening the innings since opener David Warner retired this year.

He scored an unbeaten 91 runs in the second Test in his new role but could not perform well in the series against New Zealand. He scored only 51 runs in four innings. Bailey told cricket.com.au, “There are constant talks with Pat Cummins, Andrew McDonald and Steve Smith. Steve has expressed his desire to walk down the innings rather than start the innings.

Pat and Andrew confirmed that he will move down the batting order this season. The first Test between India and Australia will start from November 22 in Perth.
