Purushottam Patra, Gariaband. A major case of smuggling of 351 teak trees had come to light in Risgaon range of Udanti Sita River Sanctuary. During the investigation of the case, it was revealed that SDO MR Sahu provided protection to smugglers. But even after 1050 pages of charge sheet was submitted after investigation in the case, no action has been taken against the SDO. A case of illegal felling of 351 teak trees had come to light in the Risgaon range of Udanti Sita River Sanctuary adjoining Odisha. 25 were made accused in the case of illegal felling in the core zone. The arrest was made in December, at the same time two accused had escaped from the custody of the area's Deputy Ranger DL Sahu. Negligence was found in the investigation.

So far the anti-poaching team has arrested 15 accused in the case. The department has started tightening the noose on the officers involved in recording the statements and mobile calls of the arrested accused. Amidst the continuous action, the SDO was adopting various tactics to obstruct the action, which has also been mentioned in the charge sheet.

A week ago, Deputy Director Varun Jain submitted a 1050-page charge sheet to PCCF in the case. Jain said that 25 people have been made accused of illegal felling. Of these, 15 have been arrested so far. As the action progressed, the misdeeds of the SDO came to light. Jain said that all the cases have been investigated at the division level. Now preparations are on to lodge an FIR in the fake documents case.
