Social media platform ‘Koo’ will be closed, founders said ‘goodbye’

The Uncut

New Delhi. The domestic social media platform ‘Koo’, which once gave competition to the social media platform ‘Twitter’ (now X), is now going to shut down. Its co-founders wrote an emotional ‘note’ informing about the ‘tough decisions’ and called it ‘goodbye’. In a post on LinkedIn, the platform’s co-founders Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka announced that the platform will shut down its services for the public. Talks for partnership with several large internet companies, groups and media houses did not yield the desired results.

He wrote, “We explored the possibility of partnership with many big internet companies, groups and media houses, but these talks did not yield the result we wanted.” Both of them said that although they wanted to keep the app running, “the cost of technology services to keep the social media app running is high. Therefore we have had to take this difficult decision.” There was a time when about 21 lakh people used ‘Koo’ daily. Many celebrities also have accounts on the platform.

The founders said, “We were just a few months away from overtaking Twitter in India in 2022… If we had the capital, we could have achieved that target at twice the speed.” He said that however, the lack of funds in the company made it difficult to execute the plans. This slowed down the growth of the platform. Both said, “The little yellow bird says its last goodbye.” The logo of the platform is a little yellow bird. It is worth noting that the popularity of ‘Koo’ in India was at its peak around 2021. At that time, the Indian government was in a dispute with Twitter (now named X) and the demand for expanding the environment of the domestic digital platform was increasing.
