Squadron Leader Mohana Singh became the country’s first woman pilot of Tejas fighter aircraft

New Delhi. Squadron Leader Mohana Singh has become India’s first woman pilot to be part of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Tejas fighter squadron, officials said on Wednesday. Singh was one of the first three women fighter pilots to join the IAF in June 2016. She has been allotted the No. 18 ‘Flying Bullets’ squadron, which is stationed at Naliya in Gujarat, officials said.

Mohana Singh had participated in the recently concluded Tarang Shakti multilateral air combat exercise. She was earlier part of fighter squadron number-3 which is stationed in Nal, Rajasthan. Singh was flying the MiG-21 Bison aircraft as part of Squadron Number-3. Avani Chaturvedi, Bhavana Kanth and Singh were selected for the first batch of women fighter pilots of the Air Force.
