Jaipur. Describing police as the most important system of the state, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said on Thursday that strengthening law and order is the top priority of the state government. The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to establishing the rule of law. He was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day state level conference of police officers here. He said that the eight crore people of the state have faith in the police and this department is controlling crime in the state by maintaining this faith so that Rajasthan’s status as a peace loving state can be re-established.
He said that the present state government has given top priority to law and order from the very beginning and in future also the police system will be strengthened as per the expectations of the common man so that law and order can be strengthened. According to the official statement, Sharma said that decisions like formation of ‘Anti Gangster Task Force’ and SIT to stop paper leak cases, taken the very next day of the formation of the present state government, show that the state government is committed to raising the prestige of law and order.
The Chief Minister said that today the nature of crime has changed, the police will have to work with more vigour while facing challenges ranging from cyber crime to organised crime.
He said that the police department is doing a good job to prevent cyber crime under Operation ‘Antivirus’ in the state. He said that it is very important to prevent drug addiction among the youth. Also, the police should work impartially and honestly while adopting a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ on corruption. The Chief Minister said that the police is the most important system of the state and no state can function without a penal system but the definition of punishment will have to be ensured.
He said that priority should be given to reducing crime against women and women’s safety. He assured that the police department will not be allowed to face any shortage of resources. Also, the number of women in the police department will be increased and police recruitment will be done.
Minister of State for Home, Jawahar Singh Bedham said that Rajasthan Police is always ready to maintain law and order, the police is continuously working to make the state ‘crime free Rajasthan’. Director General of Police U.R. Sahu said that in this conference, a dozen sessions will be organized on the theme ‘Policing with Excellence – The Way Forward’ and a roadmap for better policing will be prepared.
