Raipur. Interest free loans will be given to children of economically weak families in the Maoist terror affected districts of Chhattisgarh to provide them better opportunities for technical and professional higher education. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has given instructions to benefit maximum number of students in these districts under the ‘Mukhyamantri Uchchaar Shiksha Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme’. He has asked to run a special campaign for this.
Chief Minister Sai has also directed the collectors of other districts of the state to provide the benefit of loan facility being given at one percent interest rate for technical and professional higher education to the children of families with weak economic condition.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the Technical Education Department has been made the nodal department for the operation of the Chief Minister’s Higher Education Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme. 35 technical and other professional courses at diploma, graduate and postgraduate level have been included under this scheme. The maximum limit of education loan for interest subsidy in the scheme is Rs 4 lakh.
Under the Chief Minister Higher Education Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme, students enrolled in technical education and other professional education courses, whose families’ annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh, will be charged interest at the rate of only one percent in case of regular payment of loan installments after the moratorium period. The remaining interest amount will be paid by the state government directly to the concerned bank.
Students of Maoist terror affected districts of the state, namely Bastar, Bijapur, South Bastar Dantewada, Jashpur, North Bastar Kanker, Korea, Narayanpur, Rajnandgaon, Surguja, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Gariaband, Balod, Sukma, Kondagaon and Balrampur will get interest free loan.
To avail the benefits of this scheme, the student should be a native of Chhattisgarh. He should be enrolled in a course established in Chhattisgarh state and recognized by the competent authority (such as AICTE, UGC). The maximum family income should be Rs 2 lakh, which should be certified by an income certificate issued by the competent authority.
The maximum limit of education loan for interest subsidy under the scheme is Rs. 4 lakh. Regular payment of loan installments is mandatory to avail the benefit of interest subsidy. Drop out and expelled students will not remain beneficiaries of this scheme but eligibility will remain in case of interruption in studies for a maximum limit of one year due to medical reasons.
