Surajpur: Baranga river in spate, village panchayat Rasouki becomes an island

The Uncut

Biharpur. The Baranga river has been overflowing for the past one week due to rain. Due to the flood in the river, traffic on the road connecting Korea has come to a halt and the village panchayat Rasoki has become an island. The government has approved the construction of the Rasoki road, but the road and bridges have not been constructed yet. The Baranga river crosses the road at four places. Traffic has come to a complete halt due to the flood in the Baranga river. As there is water all around, the villagers are leaving their homes only when it is absolutely necessary or when someone is seriously ill.

To take the patients to the community health center in Biharpur, the villagers first carry the bike to the road with the help of their shoulders and bamboo and then go somewhere else. This continues throughout the rainy season. There is a school in the village for studying up to middle level. Students studying from high school to college have to stay in a rented room in Biharpur.

Since the distance of Biharpur to village Rasouki is 45 km, it is not possible to travel daily from the village for further studies. Due to the closure of transportation during the rainy season, the administration stores ration for four months before the rainy season.
