Kozhikode. Well-known South Indian actress Padmapriya on Tuesday shared a disturbing experience on the sets of a Tamil film many years ago. He said that a film producer had allegedly slapped him in front of others.
Addressing an event here, the actress said that the media reports at that time had falsely claimed that she had slapped the director and no one asked why she complained to the film association if it was true.
Padmapriya (44) said the incident reflects a wider issue, where women’s experiences are often dismissed or misrepresented. After this incident, the director was banned by the film industry from making films for six months but after this the actress stopped working in Tamil films.
He said that till then he had never had any such “bad” experience on a film set. Without naming the director, she alleged that after the shooting was over, the director slapped her in front of everyone. The actress, who has worked in a few Malayalam films, also highlighted the inequality with women professionals in the film industry.
