Rampur/New Delhi. Miscreants placed an old pole used for laying telephone wires on the railway track near Balwant Enclave Colony in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. However, the accident was averted when the train driver applied emergency brakes, railway sources said. Railway officials said the incident took place on Wednesday near Rudrapur City Railway Station, about 43 km from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh.

A spokesperson of the Railway Ministry, suspecting an attempt to overturn the train, said, “On September 18, at 10:18 pm, the loco pilot of train number 12091 informed the station master of Rudrapur City that he found a six-meter long iron pole on the track between Bilaspur Road and Rudrapur City.” According to the spokesperson, the ‘loco pilot (driver)’ of train number 12091 Dehradun Express saw a pole lying on the track and showed alertness and applied emergency brakes, as a result of which the train stopped. After this the driver informed the railway officials about the incident.

On the complaint of Rajendra Kumar, a railway engineer of Rudrapur City Section, a case has been registered against an unknown person in the Government Railway Police Station of Rampur. According to the case, “On seeing the pillar, the loco pilot stopped the train by applying emergency brakes and after removing the pillar, the train was moved forward. There was a possibility of the train crashing due to the pillar.” Personnel of Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and police post reached the spot and started investigating the matter. In a similar incident in Farrukhabad on August 24, a thick piece of wood was placed on the rail track near Bhatasa railway station on the Kasganj-Farrukhabad railway track, due to which a passenger train was stopped due to collision.
