The assembly had to be dissolved due to the BJP government’s failure to convene the session: Congress

The Uncut

New Delhi. The Congress on Thursday alleged that the state assembly was dissolved to avert a constitutional crisis arising out of the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Haryana to convene an assembly session. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini remained in his post despite knowing that he did not have the mandate.

Following the recommendation of the Haryana Cabinet, the Governor dissolved the Assembly on Thursday. The last session of the Haryana Assembly was convened on March 13. It is necessary to convene a session of the Assembly once every 6 months. To avoid this constitutional crisis, the Cabinet had recommended Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to dissolve the Assembly.

Ramesh posted on the social media platform ‘X’, “Haryana Governor today dissolved the state assembly to avert the constitutional crisis arising out of the failure of the state government to convene the assembly session from March 13, 2024, a day after the swearing-in of the Chief Minister.” He alleged that the assembly session was not convened for six months deliberately, because once the MLAs came to the House, it would have been proved forever that the BJP does not have a majority in the assembly.

Ramesh also said, “The Chief Minister remained in his post despite knowing that he does not have the mandate. This is a tearing apart of democracy by a party that no longer understands how to live without a hold on power. But after October 8, 2024, he will have no choice but to adjust to the new reality.” Voting for the 90 seats of Haryana Assembly will be held in a single phase on October 5 and the counting of votes will take place on October 8.
