Jammu: Terming Congress, National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the biggest enemies of the Constitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the people of Jammu and Kashmir must fight against “corruption, terrorism and corruption” for peace and a better future for their children. Hoping for a government free from separatism.
Addressing an election rally in support of BJP candidates at the MAM Stadium here, Modi referred to the ‘cross-border surgical strike carried out in 2016’ and said, “The masters of terror know that if they do anything wrong, Modi Will find them even from hell.” The third and last phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is on October 1. In this phase, voting will be held for 40 seats of Jammu region and 16 seats of Kashmir Valley.
Modi claimed in the rally that there is tremendous enthusiasm among the people towards BJP. He said, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been victims of the rule of three families – Congress, NC and PDP – and now they do not want them back.”
In his nearly 45-minute speech, the Prime Minister said, “He does not want corruption and discrimination in jobs, terrorism, separatism and bloodshed.” Instead they want peace and a better future for their children. Modi said the people of Jammu and Kashmir want the BJP to form the government and the heavy turnout in the first two phases reflects the mood of the people.
He alleged that previous governments discriminated against the Jammu region. “This is a city of temples,” he said. Don’t waste the opportunity, BJP government will be formed and it will solve all your issues.” He said, ”This election is going to write a new chapter. Earlier, Congress, NC, PDP leaders and their families benefited from their governments while you have suffered destruction.
“Congress is the party most responsible for the loss of generations (due to terrorism),” Modi alleged. Since independence, the party’s wrong policies have emboldened the opposition forces. Modi said ceasefire violations were common on the borders in Jammu because “they (Congress) used to show them white flags.”
He said, “The BJP government responded to the bullets with mortar shells to bring their minds to a halt.” He said, “Today is September 28 and you know that on this day (in 2016) there was a surgical strike. . India had given a message to the world that this is the new India and it kills by entering the house.” The Prime Minister said that Congress had asked for proof of this after his government conducted a ‘surgical strike’.
He said, “This is a party which speaks the language of Pakistan on ‘surgical strike’. Will you forgive Congress for such language? Congress does not respect those who sacrifice their lives for the country.” He alleged that this is the same Congress which lied to the armed forces by thinking that ‘One Rank, One Pension’ would be a burden on the exchequer.
Accusing the Congress of being under the influence of ‘urban Naxalites’, the Prime Minister said, “When infiltrators come from outside, they like it because they see them as vote banks.” But they tell jokes about the problems of our own people.
Modi alleged that Congress, NC and PDP are the biggest enemies of the Constitution. He accused these parties of stifling the spirit of BR Ambedkar’s Constitution by ‘depriving’ people from different sections of the society of voting rights.
“The BJP respected the Constitution and gave the right to vote to these brothers and sisters – West Pakistani refugees, Gorkhas and Valmikis – who were forced to live as second-class citizens,” he said.
The Prime Minister also alleged that these parties violated the Constitution by not conducting elections for Panchayat and local bodies. Modi began his speech by remembering great Dogra personalities including Maharaja Hari Singh and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on their birth anniversary.
This is Modi’s third visit to Jammu and Kashmir and fourth election rally in the last fortnight. He addressed an election rally in Doda district on 14 September, four days before the first phase of elections. He had held two other rallies in Srinagar and Katra on September 19 ahead of the second phase of elections. The vigorous campaigning for the third phase will end on Sunday evening.
