New Delhi. In the third and final phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, 65.48 percent voting took place till 5 pm, which is likely to be more than the voting in the Lok Sabha elections in the respective seven districts. In the recently held parliamentary elections, 66.78 percent voting was recorded in these districts.
The voting percentage in the first and second phase of assembly elections in the Union Territory was more than that of the Lok Sabha elections. In the first phase of assembly elections, 61.38 percent voting took place in seven districts, while in the general elections it was 60 percent. According to the available data, in the six districts where voting took place in the second phase of the assembly elections, 57.31 percent voting took place, while in the Lok Sabha elections, 52.17 percent voting took place.
Assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after a decade. This is the first election after the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution in the year 2019 and dividing the erstwhile state into two union territories. After the delimitation exercise, the number of assembly seats has increased from 83 to 90, excluding the seats allotted to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
