Chandigarh: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday called on the people of Haryana to oust the BJP from power in the October 5 assembly elections, saying it is a fight against “evil, injustice and untruth”.
Priyanka addressed a rally in Haryana’s Julana while campaigning in favor of her party candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Attacking the BJP-led government in the state over issues including employment, Agniveer military recruitment scheme and farmers’ welfare, Priyanka Gandhi alleged that the ruling party has “betrayed” the people at every level.
He said, “An opportunity like the battle of Kurukshetra and the fight against British rule has come again. Today this is your fight, which is against injustice, untruth and evil. You have to stand up, look within yourself and see what’s happening.”
The Congress general secretary alleged that the Narendra Modi government works only for the benefit of a handful of industrialists. He said the BJP-led central government is unable to create employment opportunities as it has “given everything to Ambani and Adani”.
He said, “All ports, land, industries, airports have been given to big industrialists.” The Congress leader said that today no employment opportunities can be generated from small businesses and agriculture sector. “It (BJP government) cannot do the work of providing employment because its policies are against it (employment creation),” he claimed.
Referring to the Agneepath scheme, Priyanka said that Agniveers will not get any pension and after four years of service, they will have to look for employment again. He said, “This is what Modiji has given you.”
Priyanka Gandhi also criticized the BJP government over the ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’ scheme and said that it has caused many problems to the people. “You were misled for 10 years,” he said. You have been witnessing injustice to farmers, soldiers, wrestlers and women for 10 years.
Referring to the three agricultural laws that have now been repealed, the Congress leader said that injustice was done to the farming community. He said, “Modi did not bother to come out even for five minutes to meet the protesting farmers sitting on the borders of Delhi.”
Priyanka Gandhi alleged, “He (Modi) was going to bring such agricultural laws which would have an adverse effect on you.” He knew that only big industrialists would benefit from those agricultural laws. Farmers do not get any benefit. You struggled for many months and were beaten, 750 farmers lost their lives. He showed leniency only when Uttar Pradesh elections came.
Taking a dig at the BJP government’s claim of giving MSP on 24 crops, he said that 10 of them are not even grown in Haryana. Gandhi said, “Who are they fooling?” The whole country is watching.” He appealed to the people, ”Change this government. Uproot BJP.
