New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lauded the Cabinet decision to approve three railway projects with an estimated cost of Rs 6,456 crore, saying it will greatly benefit Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.
According to the Railway Ministry, these projects will improve transportation efficiency by connecting remote areas, increasing existing line capacity and expanding the transport network as well as streamlining the supply chain, leading to rapid economic development.
Modi said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “The three new railway projects approved by the Cabinet today will greatly benefit Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. These benefits include seamless transportation of goods and easy travel for passengers.” Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Modi, had approved three projects with a total estimated cost of Rs 6,456 crore.
The ministry said, “The new line proposals will provide direct connectivity and improve traffic, and increase the efficiency and service reliability of Indian Railways. The multi-tracking proposal will ease operations and reduce congestion, thereby developing much-needed infrastructure on the busiest sections of Indian Railways.” He said, “These projects are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of New India, which will lead to extensive development in various sectors and make people self-reliant and increase their employment / self-employment opportunities.” According to the ministry, these projects are the result of ‘PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan’ for multi-modal connectivity, which has been made possible by preparing an integrated plan and will provide seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods and services.
The ministry said, “The three projects to be implemented in seven districts of four states like Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh will expand the existing network of Indian Railways by about 300 km.” It said, “14 new stations will be constructed with these projects, which will provide better connectivity to two aspiring districts (Nuapada and East Singhbhum).” The new line projects will provide connectivity to about 1,300 villages and about 11 lakh people.
