Three policemen injured while saving people from mob attack in Bihar

Katihar: At least three policemen were injured while trying to rescue three persons caught by residents of a village on charges of practicing black magic in Bihar’s Katihar district. “Three policemen were injured during the rescue operation,” Katihar Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar told PTI on Wednesday.

We are investigating the matter and identifying the accused involved in the attack. Giving details about the incident, the SP said that Gopal Rishi, a resident of Khairiya village under Kodha police station, died a few days ago, after which the villagers claimed that the three men had recently told him that he would die soon.

He said that on Tuesday the villagers caught them and beat them up on suspicion of practicing black magic. He said that the police was successful in rescuing the three people from the villagers. The SP said that during the operation, a group of villagers attacked the police personnel as well as damaged the police vehicle.
He said three policemen were injured in the mob attack and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
He said that he is out of danger now.
