Raipur, Union Tribal Affairs Ministry and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Arjun Munda has been elected unopposed as the President of the Archery Association of India (AAI). At the same time, the DDA with its full panel of one Senior Vice President, eight Vice Presidents and seven Joint Secretaries will elect a General Secretary for the post of President of AAI for the period 2024-2028 in the General Council meeting of AAI held at Yamuna Sports Complex, Delhi. A Treasurer was re-elected unopposed.
Delhi Pradesh BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, who was earlier the treasurer of the association, has become the new honorary general secretary of the Indian Archery Association. At the same time, Dr. Joris Paulos Ummacheril of Kerala has been elected as the new honorary treasurer. Elections were held without any competition for all posts except eight posts of Vice President, for which there were nine candidates. 35 member state archery associations participated in the election process.
Justice Pramod Kohli (Retd), former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court and Chairman of the Arbitration Commission of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), conducted the AAI elections in a transparent and peaceful manner. Justice Kohli declared the results of the AAI elections (copy enclosed) in the presence of Indian Olympic Association treasurer Sahdev Yadav, who attended the meeting as an IOA observer.
After the results were declared, AAI's newly elected President Arjun Munda said, I am very honored and grateful for the overwhelming mandate of all the member associations and the confidence reposed in me by electing me again unopposed. Our journey together has been remarkable and I am committed to building on the progress we have made. There is still a lot to be done, which I will definitely try to do in my next term. Together we will explore new paths of development. We will support our archers, coaches and other stakeholders by providing world class facilities and strive to win more and more medals and achievements in the highest level competitions.
Newly elected General Secretary of AAI, Virendra Sachdeva also expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone for giving the panel its huge mandate and assured that AAI will work as a joint family, accommodating the views of all stakeholders. He said, everyone will have to work together to take our game to new heights and I seek cooperation from everyone to achieve this objective. He said that, AAI will soon announce its various committees and sub-committees which will work together for the development and upliftment of archery in the country. Kailash Murarka won the panel with the highest number of votes.
