Video of policeman tearing uniform: Congress criticises Madhya Pradesh government

The Uncut

Singrauli: The Congress on Monday criticised the Madhya Pradesh government after a video of a policeman tearing his uniform in Singrauli went viral on social media. However, police officials said the video was from February and action has already been taken against Assistant Sub Inspector Vinod Mishra, who is seen tearing his uniform after a heated argument with the husband of a BJP councillor.

The Congress uploaded the clip on Monday and said, “The level of policing in the state has dropped to zero. Crimes are uncontrolled, criminals are fearless and the police is helpless at some places and under pressure at others.” The party said that this viral video is being said to be of Vaidhan police station in Singrauli, where a policeman got so upset under the pressure of a BJP councilor that he tore his uniform.

The Congress also said that the condition of the Home Department has deteriorated under the rule of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiv Kumar Verma said that the investigation into the February video was initiated by the then SP Yusuf Qureshi.

He said that after receiving the investigation report, the present SP Nivedita Gupta has ordered to stop Mishra’s annual salary increment. Arjun Gupta, husband of BJP councilor Gauri Gupta, said that the allegations of Mishra tearing the uniform have now been proved false.

The dispute was over the construction of a drain and Gupta claimed he had only told Mishra that he would tear his uniform if he got angry. Mishra said on Monday that Gupta had threatened to tear his clothes and get him fired in the presence of SHO Sudhesh Tiwari. He said he tore his uniform after feeling insulted. “I shouldn’t have reacted like this,” Mishra said.
