Nagpur: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attributed the increase in voting percentage in the state assembly elections to the “pro-incumbency wave” and voters’ “attachment” towards the grand alliance government. He said on Thursday that the increase in voting percentage will benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ruling allies. He expressed confidence that the Mahayuti alliance will form the next government in the state.
Nearly 65 percent voting took place in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held on Wednesday. Election officials said that these figures are temporary. He said that there was 61.74 percent voting in the 2019 assembly elections in the state.
In the assembly elections, the BJP-led Mahayuti is confident of retaining power, while the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is expected to continue its good performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to reporters at Nagpur airport, Fadnavis said, “Voting percentage has increased in Maharashtra and whenever it happens, it is in favor of the BJP and the alliance parties. We hope that this will benefit us and we will form the government.
When asked about the possible reasons behind the increase in voting, he said, “I think the voting percentage has increased due to the pro-incumbency wave and the feeling of attachment among the voters towards the government.” It also cannot be ignored that there may be an increase in the turnout of women voters. This has happened due to ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme.
When asked that most of the ‘exit polls’ have predicted the victory of the BJP-led alliance in Maharashtra, while some have predicted a lead for the opposition alliance MVA, Fadnavis said that on the subject of ‘exit polls’ Party spokespersons talk, not leaders.
On the question asked about the post of Chief Minister, the senior BJP leader said that the three constituents of the Mahayuti, BJP, Eknath Nishde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will discuss the matter together and take an appropriate decision. .
On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s demand to arrest industrialist Gautam Adani after US prosecutors leveled bribery charges against him, Fadnavis said Gandhi speaks daily and there is nothing big in it.
