We have got certificate for ’emergency’: Kangana Ranaut

New Delhi. Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is finally ready for release and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued the censor certificate to this controversial film. In this film, the actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP has played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Ranaut wrote on ‘Instagram Stories’, ‘We have got the certificate for our film ‘Emergency’. We will announce the release date soon, thank you for your patience and support.’ It was scheduled to be released in theaters across the country in September, but due to not getting the approval certificate from the Censor Board, its release was postponed. Couldn’t. Censor Board certificate is important for the public exhibition of films in India.

Ranaut has written the script of ‘Emergency’. She is also its director and co-producer, in the film she plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film was embroiled in controversy when Sikh organizations including Shiromani Akali Dal accused it of misrepresenting the community and presenting wrong facts. At that time, the actress had claimed that she and the CBFC members had received threats, and that they were under pressure from security guards not to show the scene of the assassination of the former Prime Minister.

He also accused the film body of obstructing certification, which he described as extremely discouraging. In early September, production house J Entertainment Enterprises filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking directions to the CBFC to issue a certificate to the film. Later the CBFC told the Bombay High Court that Ranaut had agreed to remove the material from the film as suggested by the board.

Ranaut had said that she was forced to sell her property in Mumbai after the release of ‘Emergency’ was postponed due to delay in getting the censor certificate. ‘Emergency’ is based on the emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and its aftermath. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary and Milind Soman.
