New Delhi. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that the government will protect the interests of 10 crore small retailers who are facing competition from big e-commerce companies. The Union Minister had last month criticized e-commerce companies and questioned their business model. He had said that due to them small retailers in the country are suffering losses.
Goyal said, “I assure you that we will continue to work with you to fulfill the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians for a better quality of life, a better future, fulfill the aspirations of 14 crore farming families… fulfill the aspirations of 10 crore small retailers, small street shops.” Goyal was addressing the members of the Indo-US Business Council.
He said that the US-India CEO Forum will meet in Washington on October 2-3 to take forward its commercial dialogue. He stressed on self-reliance in this sector, saying that both the US and India have ‘common cause for concern’ in the matter of critical minerals. Goyal said, “We should work towards critical minerals which is an important part of our partnership for a resilient supply chain. We have a lot to give and you also have a lot to give.”
