West Bengal train accident: Kharge criticises Modi government for ‘gross mismanagement’ of Railway Ministry

The Uncut

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday condoled the death of several passengers in a train accident in West Bengal and criticised the Narendra Modi government, referring to the “gross mismanagement” of the Railway Ministry.

He said he was deeply saddened by the collision of a freight train with the Kanchenjunga Express train in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri, which claimed the lives of several passengers and injured many others. “The scenes of the accident are heart-wrenching. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. In this hour of grief, we express our solidarity and condolences to each of them. We wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Kharge said.

He demanded that the victims must be provided full compensation immediately. Kharge alleged that the Modi government has indulged in “gross mismanagement” of the Railway Ministry in the last 10 years. The Congress president claimed that as a responsible opposition, it is his party’s duty to highlight how the Modi government has systematically turned the Railway Ministry into a “camera-driven” platform for self-promotion.

He alleged that today’s tragedy is yet another reminder of this harsh reality. At least 15 people were killed and nearly 60 others injured when a freight train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express near Rangapani station in West Bengal on Monday.
