Who insults parliamentary procedures every day? The opposition does not: Sibal told Dhankhar

The Uncut

New Delhi. Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal on Sunday hit out at Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for criticising Congress leader P Chidambaram’s comments on the new criminal laws, saying it is not every day that the opposition disrespects parliamentary processes.

Congress leader P. Chidambaram had commented that three new criminal laws were prepared by “part-time” people. Dhankhar, targeting Chidambaram, had termed this statement as “unforgivable” and requested to withdraw this “objectionable and defamatory” statement.

Dhankhar had said that he was shocked to read Chidambaram’s interview in a national daily newspaper, in which he said that “new laws have been prepared by part-time people.” Sibal said in a post on ‘X’ on Sunday, “Dhankhar criticized Chidambaram’s statement that three criminal laws were prepared by part-time people and called it an ‘insult to the wisdom of Parliament which has no excuse.’ We are all part-time Dhankhar ji.

The prominent opposition leader and Rajya Sabha member said, “And who insults parliamentary procedures every day? Not us.” The Vice President, while addressing the 12th convocation of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) here on Saturday, had said, “Are we part-time people in Parliament? This is an insult to the wisdom of Parliament, for which there is no apology… I have no words to condemn such thinking and calling an MP part-time.” He said, “I appeal to him (Chidambaram) from this platform to please withdraw this objectionable, defamatory and reprehensible comment about MPs. I hope he will do so.”
