New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Sachin Pilot said on Friday that he is confident about the victory of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra and after getting the majority, it will not take long for the alliance partners to decide on the post of Chief Minister. He also said that the decision on “who should be given which post” will not take more than a day.
Pilot was given the charge of Marathwada region by the party and he campaigned extensively in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and by-election constituencies. The Congress leader rejected post-poll exit poll indications that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance would get a majority in both the states.
In an interview to ‘PTI-Bhasha’ a day before the results, Pilot said that the results of Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections as well as by-elections held in various states will make the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ‘face to face with reality’.
On the party’s prospects in the recent assembly elections after the defeat in Haryana, the Congress general secretary said Haryana was a shock and very surprising, but Maharashtra and Jharkhand are a “different story”.
He said, “There is a clear desire among the voters for change in Maharashtra because the ‘double engine’ government that was running was not living up to any of the expectations of the voters.” Pilot said, “The way we The campaign we ran, the kind of guarantees we promised, our alliance partners, the selection of candidates, our statements were positive and it got a good response. So I think we will see a change of government in Maharashtra.
Pilot held a total of 55 public meetings during the assembly election campaign, of which more than two dozen were in Maharashtra alone. He said that a sitting Chief Minister in Jharkhand was put in jail on some grounds and finally got relief from the Supreme Court. He said that such misuse of central agencies has not gone down well with the voters of the state.
Pilot told PTI, “BJP has no credible face in Jharkhand. I feel that the ‘India’ alliance allies of the opposition parties in both the states are in a good position to form the government.
