Worker killed, three injured in explosion at animal fat processing company in Kerala

Kochi. A worker has been killed and three others injured in an explosion at a company manufacturing animal fat based products in Adyar near Kalamassery in Kerala. Police gave this information on Sunday. Police said that the deceased has been identified as Vikram Pradhan (45) and the three injured laborers are natives of Odisha. Police said that the injured have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery. The hospital said that one worker suffered 35 percent burns and another suffered 25 percent burns.

The hospital said in a statement that both are currently being treated in the intensive care unit of the burn ward of the hospital. Another employee was admitted to the emergency department for evaluation and was released after treatment. All three injured laborers are residents of Sirki village of Gudayagiri block of Kandhamal district of Odisha. According to preliminary information, the explosion occurred on Saturday night due to a malfunction in the safety valve of a ‘mini boiler’. After the explosion, the fire department team and police reached the spot. Police said that a case has been registered under section 194 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) and investigation has been started.
