Kolkata: Alleging alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Graduate (NEET-UG) 2024 and delay in starting of admissions in state-run colleges, members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) protested near the West Bengal Higher Education Department headquarters in Salt Lake area here.
AIDSO members were marching towards Vikas Bhavan raising slogans but were stopped by the police. The protesters were later taken away from there in police vehicles. One of the protesters claimed that the future of many aspiring doctors is in danger due to the NEET-UG controversy.
“Along with this, disappointment is growing among students as even after a month of declaration of higher secondary results, admissions in government colleges have not started, while the admission process in private colleges has already begun,” he said.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan dismissed the allegations of NEET-UG paper leak and said that there is no evidence of it. The central government told the Supreme Court that the decision to give grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG candidates for admission to various courses of medical education has been canceled and they will be given the option to take the exam again on June 23.
