The Uncut

Bangkok. Former world youth champions Ankushita Boro (60 kg) and Nishant Dev (71 kg) entered the quarterfinals with easy wins in the second boxing World Olympic Qualifier here on Wednesday. Defending national champion Arundhati Chaudhary made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the 66 kg category with an easy win, while Asian Games bronze medalist Narender Berwal (over 92 kg) lost and was eliminated from the competition. Ankushita won 4-1 over Asian champion Rima Volosenko of Kazakhstan. At the same time, World Championship bronze medalist Nishant made it to the last eight by defeating Peerapat Yesungnoen of Thailand 5-0.
Earlier, Arundhati defeated Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Pineiro 5-0 in a unanimous decision while Narender lost 2-3 to Ecuador’s Gerlon Gilmar Congo Chala.

Arundhati made a great start against her opponent in the first round, while in the second round she adopted a slightly cautious approach and strengthened her position. The Indian boxer also dominated the third round and registered an easy win. Narender also gave a tough fight to the opponent boxer but it was not enough to make it to the next round. Asian Games 2022 bronze medalist Narender started slowly in the first round due to which he fell behind and then could not beat Gerlon. He impressed three out of five judges with his performance in the second and third rounds but it was not enough to give him the win.
