New Delhi: A day before the announcement of Lok Sabha election results, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, held a meeting here on Monday.
This meeting of the leaders of the ruling party at the Centre has taken place against the backdrop of exit polls predicting a big victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and several rounds of meetings of the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (‘India’).
It is understood that in view of this, senior BJP leaders took stock of the current political situation in this meeting and discussed the future strategy. The opposition alliance has completely rejected the exit poll estimates and claimed that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to be out of power.
There has been no official statement from the party regarding this meeting attended by BJP President JP Nadda, but it is understood that the senior leaders of the party also brainstormed on the strategy to counter the opposition.
A BJP delegation had on Sunday approached the Election Commission and accused the Congress and its allies of trying to undermine the integrity of India’s electoral process. It had also urged the Commission to prevent any attempt to cause “violence and disturbance” during the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections on June 4.
The ‘India’ alliance leaders have urged the Election Commission to ensure that postal ballots are counted and their results are announced before the EVM results are declared. The opposition alliance stressed that the Election Commission should issue clear guidelines on the counting process and ensure their implementation.
