Bemetara: Villagers protest near blast site, claim some people are missing

Pirda. The situation remained tense on Sunday as villagers protested near the blast site at the gunpowder manufacturing factory in Pirda, Chhattisgarh. Some villagers claim that their relatives are missing since the incident. A large number of policemen have been deployed around the factory premises near Pirda village in Bemetara district and officials are trying to pacify the villagers.

One person was killed and at least six others were injured in an explosion at ‘Special Blast Limited’ near Pirda village in Berla Vikas Khand on Saturday. Rescue teams have also found some body parts at the site. Government officials have not yet confirmed the number of workers missing since the incident and said that everything will become clear once the huge pile of debris is removed from the blast site.

Some eyewitnesses told local news channels that at least 100 people were working in the explosives factory at the time of the blast. They claimed that many people were missing and feared trapped under the debris. Officials had earlier said that the explosion in the factory had created a crater about 30 feet deep. Rescue operations were resumed on Sunday morning by officials of the State Disaster Response Force, police and district administration.
