BPCL to build new refinery, India eyes oil deal with Russia, other countries: Puri

New Delhi. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri took charge of the ministry for the second time on Tuesday. On this occasion, he said that the public sector Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is considering building a new oil refinery. Referring to his priorities in the third term of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that emphasis will be laid on exploration and production of more oil and gas to reduce India’s import dependence.

Apart from this, the top priorities of the government include green hydrogen, natural gas and refining and petrochemicals.
He said that the government has ensured availability, affordability and stability of energy for the citizens in recent years.
He said India has worked to diversify its sources of supply, including from Russia.
