Thane: Police have registered an FIR against a shop owner for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district, an official said on Thursday. The incident took place in Bhiwandi town on June 30. He said the victim lives in the same area where the accused’s shop is located and both families are acquainted.
The accused asked the girl to stay at the shop for a while on the pretext of going for lunch. The accused then called the minor inside the shop and allegedly touched her inappropriately, said an officer from Bhoiwada police station.
The minor told her parents about the incident the next day following which they lodged a police complaint. Based on the complaint, the police on Wednesday registered an FIR against the accused under various relevant provisions, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said.
