Delhi Police beefs up security outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence

The Uncut

New Delhi. Delhi Police has beefed up security outside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s residence after receiving intelligence inputs about right-wing organisations planning to create disturbances, sources said on Wednesday. They said a platoon of paramilitary forces along with local police personnel has also been deployed near Gandhi’s residence. There was uproar in the Lok Sabha on Monday over Gandhi’s remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sources said security has been beefed up around the Congress leader’s residence in central Delhi following inputs on Tuesday that members of right-wing organisations may create disturbance. Police suspect that people may gather outside his house carrying placards or hoardings. Sources said the local police have been asked to increase surveillance around Gandhi’s residence 24 hours a day. Gandhi enjoys Z-plus security.

On Wednesday, BJP’s Delhi unit leaders had protested here over Gandhi’s remarks against the party and demanded an apology from him. The protesters had gathered near Jaisalmer House and tried to march towards the Congress headquarters on Akbar Road, raising slogans against Gandhi and his party. On June 27, some people pasted posters outside the residence of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi in central Delhi, demanding his suspension from the Lok Sabha over the slogans raised by him during the oath-taking ceremony in the Lok Sabha. Delhi Police has registered an FIR in this case.
