Digestive problems-

Due to the abundance of water in watermelon, it can cause problems like gas, bloating and diarrhea in the digestive system. Especially those people whose digestive system is sensitive should avoid consuming excessive watermelon.


Due to 90 percent water and abundance of fiber in watermelon, a person may suffer from diarrhea, swelling and flatulence. Apart from this, a sugar compound called sorbitol is present in watermelon. Which can cause loose stools and gas.


Watermelon has high amount of natural sugar. Diabetic patients should avoid consuming watermelon in large quantities. Eating watermelon in excess can increase their glucose level, which can also increase the blood sugar level. Diabetic patients must consult their doctor before consuming watermelon.

Over hydration-

Eating too much watermelon can cause a person to suffer from overhydration. Over hydration i.e. water intoxication is a medical condition in which the amount of water in the patient’s body exceeds the requirement, due to which the amount of sodium starts decreasing. As a result, electrolyte balance may be disturbed. If this extra amount of water does not come out then the amount of blood in the body increases and the person starts having swelling in the legs, headache, muscle weakness and kidney problems.


Even if you are allergic to watermelon, avoid consuming it. In case of allergy, problems like itching, swelling and difficulty in breathing can occur on the skin.
