Father of minor accused in Pune car accident case arrested

Pune. The father of a 17-year-old boy, accused of crushing two software engineers with his speeding luxury car in Maharashtra’s Pune, was arrested on Tuesday, hours after being taken into custody from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. According to the police, the teenager, who was allegedly driving a Porsche car in an inebriated condition, crushed two software engineers riding a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar area in the early hours of Sunday, following which they died.

Police said that Crime Branch officials probing the accident case detained the minor’s father, a well-known real estate businessman, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, about 250 km from Pune, and brought him to the city in the evening. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “We have arrested him in the case and will present him in court on Wednesday.” Kumar said Jayesh Bonkar, one of the employees of Hotel Black Club, where the boy was served liquor, has also been arrested.

Earlier, the police had arrested three other accused – two managers of different restaurants and an owner – in connection with the case. Kosi Restaurant owner Naman Pralhad Bhootada, manager Sachin Katkar and Black Club Hotel manager Sandeep Sangle were produced in the court, which sent them to police custody till May 24.

The prosecution, while seeking custody of the accused for seven days, told the court that establishments owned or managed by the accused served liquor to the accused teenager and his friends without verifying their age. The deceased have been identified as Anish Awadhiya (24) and Ashwini Koshta (24). Both the IT professionals were residents of Madhya Pradesh and worked in Pune.
