I will surrender on June 2, take care of my ailing parents: Kejriwal tells supporters

The Uncut

New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday that he will surrender on June 2 and in an emotional appeal asked people to take care of his aged and ailing parents after he leaves. “I will leave my house to surrender at around 3 pm on Sunday. This time they may torture me more, but I will not bow down,” Kejriwal said.

He assured the people of Delhi that all the facilities being provided to them will continue even in his absence. He said, “You take care of yourself, I worry a lot about you in jail. If you are happy, your Kejriwal will also be happy.” He said in a digital press conference, “I will not be among you, but you do not worry, all your work will continue … and after returning, I will also start giving Rs 1000 every month to every mother and sister.” Kejriwal asked the people of Delhi to take care of their elderly and sick parents. Kejriwal said that he has always performed his duty as “the son of your family”.

He said, “Today I want to ask you something for my family. My parents are very old, my mother is very ill. I will worry a lot about them in jail. After I am gone, take care of my parents, pray for them, pray to God. Prayer has a lot of power. If you pray for my mother daily, she will definitely remain healthy.” Kejriwal said that his wife Sunita is a strong woman and she has supported him in every difficult phase of his life.

He said, “When difficult times come, the whole family supports you, all of you have supported me a lot in difficult times. It is because of your prayers that I am alive today and your blessings will protect me in the future too. In the end, I just want to say that if God wishes, your son will return very soon.” He assured the people that all the facilities they get, including 24-hour free electricity and bus travel for women, will continue.

Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. After being released from jail, Kejriwal campaigned in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi and Maharashtra.
Kejriwal said, “Together we are fighting dictatorship… If something happens to me while protecting the country, even if I lose my life, then don’t feel sad.”

He said, “I will go back to Tihar Jail the day after tomorrow. I don’t know how many days these people will keep me in jail this time. But my morale is high.” He said, “I am proud that I am going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. They tried in many ways to break my (morale), tried to bow me down and tried to silence me. But they did not succeed.” The AAP chief alleged that recently when he was in jail, he was “tortured” in many ways. He said that his medicines were stopped.

He said, “I have been suffering from severe diabetes for 20 years. For the last 10 years, I have been getting insulin injections daily. I get injections in my stomach four times every day.” He alleged that his insulin injections were stopped for several days in the jail.
He said that his sugar level had reached 300, 325 (mg/dL). He said that if the sugar level remains so high for so many days, then the kidneys and liver get damaged.

He said, “I don’t know what these people wanted and why they did this.” Talking about the weight loss during his stay in jail, Kejriwal said that he lost six kilograms during the 50 days in jail. He said, “When I went to jail, my weight was 70 kilograms. Today it is 64 kilograms. Even after being released from jail, my weight is not increasing.” Kejriwal said that doctors are saying that this could also be a sign of some major disease in his body. The level of ketone in his urine has also increased significantly and many tests need to be done.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Virendra Sachdeva hit back at Kejriwal, saying he has a “disease of lying”. “The Delhi Chief Minister (Arvind Kejriwal) has said that he has a serious illness. I agree with him. He has a disease of lying,” he said. Sachdeva said Kejriwal campaigned for the elections. However, now that it is time for him to go to jail, he is reminding everyone of his illnesses.
