Astana. Indian boxer Abhishek Yadav gave a strong performance here on Wednesday and entered the semi-finals of the Elorda Cup boxing tournament by defeating Rakhat Setzhan of Kazakhstan. Abhishek looked in great form in the men’s 67kg quarterfinal and registered a spectacular victory by defeating Setjhan 5-0. Pawan Bartwal (54 kg), Kavinder Singh Bisht (57 kg) and two other Indians lost in their quarter-finals. Pawan lost to Kazakhstan’s Kabdeshov Timur 1-4, while Kavinder lost to Uzbekistan’s Mirazbek Mirzahalilov by knockout.
Varinder Singh (60kg) and Hitesh (71kg) suffered 0-5 defeats against Kazakhstan’s Temirjanov Serik and Aslanbek Shymbergenov respectively. Late Tuesday night, Manisha (60 kg) and Monica (81+ kg) entered the semi-finals and secured two more medals for India. Along with Manisha and Monica, Meenakshi (48 kg), Anamika (50 kg), Nikhat Zareen (52 kg), Sonu (63 kg), Manju Bamboria (66 kg) and Shalakha Singh Sansanwal (70 kg) will play the semi-finals on Thursday.
