Maharashtra government demands cancellation of NEET exam, alleges injustice to students of the state

The Uncut

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has demanded the immediate cancellation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Graduation (NEET-UG) held last month, alleging that the results have done injustice to the students of the state.

The NEET-UG exam was held on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities across the country and the results were declared on June 4, after which candidates alleged manipulation in the results and said that 67 candidates have got the top rank with 720/720 marks, which include six candidates from a single exam centre in Haryana.

The National Examination Agency (NTA) has categorically rejected the allegations of irregularities in the results and said that changes made in the NCERT textbooks and grace marks given for time taken at the examination centres are some of the reasons due to which students have got higher marks.

Speaking on the issue on Friday, Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif said, “The NEET exams were probably conducted for money. The result is that no student from Maharashtra will get admission for MBBS course in any government or private college in the state.”

He said, “This has done injustice to the students of Maharashtra and it should be canceled immediately. We will raise this issue before the National Medical Commission.” Mushrif said that the government is also considering approaching the court on this issue.

At the same time, Congress has also targeted the government on this issue. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted on ‘X’, “First the NEET exam paper was leaked and now students allege that there has been corruption in its results as well. Serious questions are being raised on six students of the same examination center getting 720 out of 720 marks and many kinds of irregularities are coming to the fore.

On the other hand, there are reports of many children committing suicide across the country after the results were announced. This is very sad and shocking. ” She questioned why the government is ignoring the voice of lakhs of students? Priyanka Gandhi said, “Students want answers to legitimate questions related to the rigging in the NEET exam results. Is it not the government’s responsibility to investigate and resolve these legitimate complaints?”
