He told that when the team was in the area at 11 am today, the Naxalites started firing on them, after which the security forces also retaliated. Police officials said that the encounter between the security forces and the Naxalites continued for a long time. He said that security forces have recovered bodies and weapons of seven Naxalites from the incident site. Many Naxalites are feared injured in the encounter. Police officials said that the operation against Naxalites is going on in the area.

With this incident, 112 Naxalites have been killed so far this year in separate encounters with security forces in the state. Earlier on May 10, 12 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district. At the same time, on April 30, 10 Naxalites, including three women, were killed in an encounter with security forces on the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts. Apart from this, security forces had killed 29 Naxalites in an encounter in Kanker district on April 16.
