Aligarh. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday said the next generation of historians should highlight the role of the forgotten heroes of India’s independence movement. Addressing the first convocation ceremony of Raja Mahendra Pratap University, Aligarh, the Vice President said that this university has been established in the memory of a personality who is “truly the forgotten hero of India’s freedom movement.”
He appealed and said, “Historians of the next generation should highlight the role of such heroes of India’s freedom movement who have been forgotten with time.” Dhankhar said, “Raja Mahendra Pratap was a great freedom fighter of the 20th century. He dedicated his entire life for India’s independence and modern education in the country. Establishing a university in his name is a true tribute to him.”
He said, “Raja Mahendra Pratap was the founder of India’s first temporary government in exile in Kabul in 1915. King Mahendra Pratap, who spent a long time of his life in exile, continued to struggle for India’s independence. The Vice President said, “King Mahendra Pratap was also a great advocate of modern education. He had established an educational institution named Prem Mahavidyalaya in Mathura and he also donated a lot of land for it.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap University located in Lodha section of Aligarh on 14 September 2021.
