No objection to action against grandson if found guilty in sexual abuse case: Deve Gowda

The Uncut

Bengaluru: Janata Dal (S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda on Saturday broke his silence on sexual harassment allegations against his grandson and MP Prajwal Revanna, saying he has no objection to action being taken against him if he is found guilty.

However, Deve Gowda, who completed 92 years of life on Saturday, said the cases against his son and JD(S) MLA HD Revanna are ‘fabricated’, but refrained from commenting further as the matter is sub-judice.

HD Revanna is facing charges of sexual assault and kidnapping of a woman. Recently, Gowda had announced his decision not to celebrate his birthday and requested well-wishers and party workers to wish him from wherever they are.

Deve Gowda said, “… I do not want to comment on the things going on in the court regarding Revanna. Prajwal Revanna has gone abroad, in this regard Kumaraswamy (Gowda’s second son and JD(S) state unit chief) has said on behalf of our family that it is the duty of the government to take action as per the law of the country.

Addressing reporters here, the former Prime Minister said, “Many people are involved in this (sexual exploitation case), I do not want to take anyone’s name.” Kumaraswamy has said that action should be taken against all those who are involved in this matter.

The affected women should get justice and compensation.” He said, ”We have no objection to the action against Prajwal. But people have come to know (the facts) about the allegations made against Revanna and how the case has been fabricated.

Prajwal (33), the sitting MP from Hassan Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka, is facing several cases of sexual harassment of women. He is also the joint candidate of BJP-Janata Dal (S) in this Lok Sabha election from Hassan seat which went to polls on April 26.

Prajwal reportedly left for Germany on April 27 and is still absconding. An “Interpol Blue Corner” notice has been issued against Prajwal in an effort to bring him back.
