Pune car accident: Court sends minor’s parents to police custody till June 5

The Uncut

Pune. A Pune court on Sunday sent the parents of a 17-year-old boy, allegedly involved in a Porsche car accident, to police custody till June 5 in a case of destruction of evidence. The two are being investigated for their alleged role in replacing the minor’s blood samples after the May 19 car accident in Maharashtra’s Pune city that claimed the lives of two IT professionals.

The minor accused’s mother Shivani Agarwal was arrested on June 1 after it was revealed that the minor’s blood sample was replaced with that of her mother. The accused’s father and real estate businessman Vishal Agarwal has been arrested for his involvement in destroying evidence in the case. The police produced the minor’s parents before a court here and sought their remand. Both were sent to police custody till June 5.

The police told the court that the Agrawal couple conspired to destroy evidence related to the accident. According to the police, they went to a government hospital and manipulated the blood samples of the minor. The couple’s lawyer Prashant Patil said that the police have searched their house and recovered CCTV footage installed at their house. Patil said that they have been booked under Section 201 (destruction of evidence of crime) of the Indian Penal Code, which is a bailable offence and hence the couple should be sent to judicial custody.
