Saran violence: Lalu’s daughter Rohini’s name included in FIR, property of absconding persons is being confiscated

Chapra-Patna. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad’s daughter Rohini Acharya’s name is also included in the FIR lodged by the police on the basis of BJP’s complaint against the violence that took place on Tuesday after the polling in Bihar’s Saran district. One person died and two others were injured in this violence that took place on Monday, the day after the polling. The incident took place in Bada Telpa area near Bhikhari Thakur Chowk.

According to police, the process of confiscating the properties of the ‘absconding persons’ who did not appear before the police has been initiated by the concerned authorities and the state government on Thursday extended the ban on internet services in the district by two more days till May 25. Saran police have so far registered a total of four FIRs in connection with the alleged irregularities on polling day (May 20) and the death of a person on May 21. Police have so far arrested two persons in connection with their investigation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to nab the absconding accused in the post-poll violence case.

The police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, based on an online complaint filed by Manoj Kumar, a representative of the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Saran. In his complaint, Kumar alleged that Rohini Acharya, along with her seven supporters and 50 unidentified persons, were involved in illegal/irregular activities at polling booth numbers 318 and 319 in the Chhapra assembly seat on May 20. Kumar also alleged in his complaint that BJP supporters were also attacked by RJD workers at polling booth numbers 318 and 319.

Saran District Magistrate Aman Sameer told PTI on Thursday, “The situation in Saran is completely under control. Security personnel are keeping a close watch in the Bada Telpa area near Bhikhari Thakur Chowk after Tuesday’s incident. As a precautionary measure, the government has extended the ban on internet services in the district by two more days till May 25. Earlier this ban was imposed till May 23.” Saran Superintendent of Police Gaurav Mangala told PTI, “The process of confiscating the properties of the absconding persons who failed to appear before the police has been started.”

However, he refused to give the exact number of people whose properties are being confiscated. Meanwhile, senior RJD leaders on Wednesday met the family members of the deceased (Chandan Rai) and provided them a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as compensation and Rs 2 lakh each for the treatment of the injured people.
