Sindhu one step away from Malaysia Masters title…

The Uncut

Kuala Lumpur: Two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu registered a stunning come-from-behind win over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan to enter the final of the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament here on Saturday.

Fifth seed Sindhu, who has failed to win a single title in the last two years, won 13-21, 21-16, 21-12 against world number 20 Busanan in a marathon match that lasted 88 minutes in the semi-finals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Sindhu had earlier won the 2022 Singapore Open and was the runner-up at the Madrid Spain Masters last year.
This was his 18th win in 19 matches against Busanan. Busanan has defeated Sindhu only once in the 2019 Hong Kong Open.

Sindhu, who is ranked 15th in the world, will face China’s second seeded Wang Zhang Yi in the final. Sindhu has won two of the three matches against Zhang, who is ranked seventh in the world.

Sindhu, who won silver and bronze medals respectively in the last two Olympics, is good news for Indian sports as she is back in form before the Paris Olympics. Since returning from a knee injury earlier this season, she has played aggressively in the last few tournaments.
