Singapore Open: Trisa-Gayathri defeated second ranked pair, Sindhu lost to Marin

Singapore. PV Sindhu lost to her arch rival Carolina Marin in the pre-quarterfinals of the Singapore Open badminton while the pair of Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated world number two South Korean team Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee to enter the last eight. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu, who finished runner-up in the Thailand Open last week, lost the pre-quarterfinal match of the BWF World Tour Super 750 21-13, 11-20, 20-22 in one hour and eight minutes.
This was Sindhu’s sixth consecutive defeat against Marin since 2018.
Commonwealth Games bronze medallists Trisa and Gayatri defeated Baek and Lee 21-9, 14-21, 21-15.
In men’s singles, world number 10 HS Prannoy lost to world number 11 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 21-12, 14-21, 21-15.
Sindhu and Marin were facing each other for the first time in seven months after the altercation in the Denmark Open women’s singles semi-final.
After losing the first game, world number three player Marin made a brilliant comeback and scored six consecutive points and took a lead of 17-7. After this, she did not give Sindhu a chance to make a comeback and dragged the match to the deciding game. Sindhu took the lead in the deciding game but Marin made a comeback and won. This was her 12th win in 17 matches against Sindhu.
