Pune: Six people, including two children, drowned when a boat capsized near Ujni Dam in Maharashtra’s Pune district. An official provided this information on Wednesday. He said that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening after strong winds and rain.

Indapur Tehsildar Shrikant Patil said that those who drowned included three men, a woman and two children.
He said the boat service operates between Kalashi and Bhugav villages. He said the boat, carrying seven people, capsized following strong winds and rain on Tuesday evening.

An officer said that an officer of the rank of Assistant Police Inspector, who was in the boat, swam out safely. He said that the search operation is being conducted with the help of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local administration.
