Suresh Gopi said the day after the swearing-in ceremony- I do not wish to become a minister…

The Uncut

Actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi has made a shocking statement a day after taking oath as a minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. He has indicated that he may soon be relieved of the responsibility of the ministerial post. Gopi had won the Thrissur constituency in the 2024 parliamentary elections and created history by becoming the first BJP Lok Sabha MP from Kerala.

On the issue of Suresh Gopi leaving the ministerial post, some media reports claim that he has signed a film, due to which he does not want to take the responsibility of the post. Whereas according to some other media reports, he is waiting for the ministerial portfolios to come. After that he will think and decide. However, some time ago he had given a statement that he does not want the ministerial post, he wants to serve the people without a post.

In fact, Gopi became the face of the ‘Modiyudu Guarantee’ (Modi’s Guarantee) promise for Kerala during the elections. He was inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in Prime Minister Modi’s government. He took oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. The 65-year-old actor won the Thrissur parliamentary seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Here he defeated advocate and CPM candidate VS Sunilkumar by 74,686 votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held his first election roadshow in Thrissur in December last year and later the Prime Minister also made another visit to the constituency to attend the wedding of Gopi’s daughter at Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple.

Earlier, on the election results, he had said that I am very happy. What was impossible has become possible in a wonderful way. This was not a 62-day election process, it was an emotional journey for the last 7 years. I work for the whole of Kerala. My first choice will be to get AIIMS built. Apart from Suresh Gopi, senior BJP leader George Kurien was also included in the Council of Ministers as a Minister of State on Sunday.
